Ayalde Children College
In the Ayalde children’s school, we offer a pedagogical project for children to have fun learning. It was born with the purpose of offering families an early and comprehensive education of their children in an atmosphere of affection and personal attention.
In addition, to facilitate the reconciliation of the family, personal and professional life we offer a daycare service and, through the classroom of cribs, a support to families in the process of raising their children from the first months of life.
Through early learning, trilingualism, education by habits and the culture of thought, we want to develop the full potential of the students.
EDUCATIVE OBJECTIVES
Teaching for Thinking and Understanding
Right from the year 2001, we have integrated to our education methodologies that bring an added value to the education of the moment: the Zero project from Harvard University and the Thinking Based Learning from Boston’s National Center for Teaching Thinking.
The ultimate goal of incorporating both of these in our programming is to refine the thinking skills of students in any subject or area of the curriculum to help them think more and better, and, consequently, to make the teaching process more profitable, learning-guided by the teaching staff.
Psycho-pedagogical Orientation
In Ayalde we have a psycho-pedagogical Guidance office, whose objective is the prevention, detection and monitoring of learning problems.
Its mission is to guarantee our students more specific support, which supports the progress of their education, the development of their abilities and the acquisition of skills.
Trilingualism
The students of the first cycle of Infantile realise daily modules in English, Basque and Castilian.
In the second cycle, the day is divided into three modules, in which they dedicate to each of the languages. These languages are used as a vehicular language in the different subjects. Our trilingual approach is a pioneer project in the Community of the Basque Country.
Education in Habits and Coexistence
From the first cycle of Early Childhood Education, we began to educate our students in the acquisition of habits and values, both personal and for coexistence. This is a favourable stage for the acquisition of habits for the students, since they are in a receptive period very indicated to assimilate them.
Christian Formation
The COAS schools, although they are not confessional, have educational projects of Christian identity, based on the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Students are taught small practices of piety and personal contact with Jesus and the Virgin Mary in a manner appropriate to their age.
The chaplaincy, attended by priests belonging to the Opus Dei Prelature, offers spiritual attention to all those who request it.
Early Stimulation
COAS schools have been applying the methodology in early teaching for many years, through sensory, cognitive, motor and behavioural stimulation.
We know that between the ages of zero to six we are in the golden age to begin to build solid personalities.
Neurological advances have shown that at three years the brain of the boy and girl has matured and developed 50% of its capacity. Hence the importance of moving in these early years in an environment rich in sensory, visual and tactile stimuli.
EDUCATIONAL MODEL
The Role of the Parents
By belonging to the COAS EDUCATIONAL GROUP, Ayalde shares with the rest of the group’s schools his conviction that parents are the main responsible for the education of their children and that the school collaborates with this task in a delegated way. The educational objectives for the student be achieved only when the school-family binomial works well.
From the school, the participation of the parents is encouraged through the established channels (Association of Fathers and Mothers and the Couples Course Managers) with the purpose of supporting and collaborating in solidarity with the Educational Project of the school, and helping each other to be part of the education of their children.
Personalised Education
In our school each, student and his family benefit from a personalised treatment. This is done through tutoring. It is something that distinguishes us essentially from other schools in the area.
The tutor informs the parents, through an adequate follow-up, of the student’s progress in adapting to school, their learning process and their relationship with other classmates.
The parents meet with the tutor at least three times a year or at any time, at the express request of the parents. These meetings encourage sincere dialogue and close collaboration with the school to achieve the educational goals of the child.
Teacher Training
At Ayalde, we are aware that a greater and better training of our teachers will lead to a better formation for the students, and in consequence the school will reach higher levels of excellence.
From the Educational Group COAS, an annual training plan is organized for the teachers of each centre. In this manner, it is developing different lines of pedagogical innovation with the continuous advice of prestigious experts in pedagogy, neurology, languages, mathematics, civic education, theology and ICT from different teaching centres around the world.
